Laws of the CHSGAA Track Intersectionals
Article I: Membership
All
schools meeting the membership requirements of the constitution and have paid a
$75 dues for the previous year will be active members. Dues will be collected on each season’s
intersectional entry($25). The dues
will be used for the Chairman's salary ($600) and normal operational expenses.
Article II: Duties of Officers
The
chairman shall run the normal track program for the league. He shall arrange all three Championship
meets, conduct all-star balloting, arrange clinics, and inform all member
schools of important news and events.
The Games Committee shall serve as the legal body in charge of all
Championship meets. The Sectional
Representative shall be in charge of each section and are responsible for
running the Sectional Championships.
Article III: Eligibility
A
girl who competes for a member school must meet the following eligibility
requirements:
1) She may not receive an athletic
scholarship from her school;
2) She may not receive money for
participation in sports except under
TAC rules;
3) The school must have a medical form
and a parental permission form for every girl on the team;
4) Each team must have at least 15 team
days of practice and each girl 13 team days of practice before she may
compete in her first competition in a season.
5) A girl may not have reached her 19th
birthday before Sept. 1st of the present scholastic year.
Article IV: Rules
National
Federation of State High School Associations rules will be used in all meets
with the following exceptions:
1) Point scoring in Indoor/Outdoor meets
will be 6-4-3-2-1.
2) The height of the 55m and 100m hurdles
will be 33".
3) The order of events shall be as close
to the order of the NYSPHSAA Championship
as possible.
4) All State Meet scoring events will
score in the Intersectional
Championship except: Pole Vault and the pentathlon(outdoor). Javelin (outdoor) shall be a scoring
event. Other non- scoring events shall
be: sophomore 1600m relay, Freshman sprint medley relay.
5) The Indoor shot shall have a hard
shell.
6) Opening height in the high jump shall
be: 4'2" for the Indoor
Championship and 4'4" for the
Outdoor Championship.
7) Advancing in the 100m and 55m will be
by place while in the 55m
hurdles and 100m hurdles it will be by time.
8) Places of incomplete teams in
Cross-country will be retained with
no retabulation of scores.
Article V: Miscellaneous
Rules:
1) Once a change has been voted in, it
will remain in effect for three years.
2) A change will go into effect during
the season following the subsequent one.
Article VI: Cross-country
1)
The section shall conduct a Cross-country Championship which shall be the
qualifying meet for the New York State Federation Championship. This meet should be held in conjunction with
the boys CHSAA Championship.
2)
There shall be four separate races in the championship: Varsity, Junior
Varsity, Sophomore, and Freshmen. The
Varsity race shall run before the Junior Varsity race.
3)
In cross-country competition, a Varsity team must start the seven best runners
representing the school in the sport.
Any school violating the spirit of the rule in relation to running its
best seven runners in varsity will forfeit all prizes won in such races where
the violations took place. They shall
also forfeit their point score and place standings in such races. A school may enter only one team of seven
runners in the Varsity Championship race.
The comments of this paragraph will be enforced by the Games Committee.
4)
Concerning the medals and trophies in a tie situation: The team having the
lower scoring 6th place individual shall be awarded the team medals and trophy.
5)
The varsity course shall not exceed 5000 meters. The Freshman course shall not exceed 3000 meters.
6)
Cross-country season may not begin before August 22nd and may not run for more
than 15 consecutive weeks. A girl must
have 60 hours between races.
7)
The scoring in JV, Sophomore and Freshman races shall be the same as the
Varsity scoring. The first seven
runners to finish constitute a school's first team. Only one team per school
will be scored.
8)
Medals and trophies:
In the Varsity race there will be three
team plaques and five sets of team medals. In the junior varsity and sophomore
races there shall be
plaques
and seven team medals to the first three teams. In the freshmen race there shall be three team plaques and four
sets of team medals.
In the varsity race there shall be 35
individual medals, in the sophomore and junior varsity races there will be 25
individual medals, and in the freshmen race there will be 40 individual medals.
Article VII: Indoor and Outdoor Seasons
1)
The section will sponsor a Championship Track and Field meet during both the
Indoor and Outdoor seasons which shall be the qualifying meet for the NYSPHSAA
Championship.
2)
A competitor may be in any 2 field events and 1 running events or any 2 running
events and 1 field event in the championship meet. Non-scoring events apply to this rule. Outside the Championship meet the maximum number of events shall
be four.
3)
Medals shall be awarded to five places in individual events, five places in the
varsity relays and three in the non-scoring relays. There shall be three team plaques. There shall also be two outstanding athlete awards selected by
the games committee: one for running events and one for field events.
4)
The games committee shall be the jury of appeals.
5)
A tie for any place in the team scoring shall be dissolved by the highest
number of first, seconds, thirds, etc.
If still undecided, a flip of the coin will decide the trophies except
for first place.
6)
Indoor season may not begin before October 22 nor run more than 22 weeks. Outdoor season may not begin before March
4th nor run more than 15 weeks.
7)
A girl is permitted a maximum of three meets per calendar week and no more than
1 meet per day. She may not compete on
3 consecutive days and must have 24 hours between meets.
8)
The maximum school entry fee per Championship Meet shall be $200.
9) The order of events shall resemble the state order where possible.
10) Events contested:
Indoor- 55m, 55m hurdles, 300m, 600m, 1000m,
1500m, 3000m, 800m relay, 1600m relay, 3200m relay, Long Jump, Triple Jump,
Shot Put, High Jump: non-scoring events- Soph 1600m Relay, Frosh SMR, Pole
Vault.
Outdoor- 100m, 100m Hurdles, 200m, 400m, 400m
Hurdles, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin,
High Jump: non-scoring events- Soph 1600m Relay, Frosh SMR, Pole Vault.
11) The league shall host a Freshmen Intersectional Championship during
the outdoor season. The individual events
shall be consistent with the varsity meet and the only relay held will be the
1600m Relay. Scoring and event rule
shall be consistent with the varsity meet.
Medals will be awarded top five individually and to the top three
relays. In addition the top three teams
will receive small CHSAA plaques.
Scoring 6-4-3-2-1.
12) The league shall also host a Sophomore Intersectional Championship
in conjunction with the Freshmen outdoor Intersectional.
Proposals:

Accepted: The walk will be dropped if and when it is
dropped from the State Meet.
87-88
Accepted: Reduce the number of state Qualifiers for X-C
from six teams to 5
Accepted: Reduce the number of individuals that qualify
for states to the first 15 individuals who are not a member of a
school that qualifies as a team.
Accepted: Have an outstanding athlete award for field
events as well as an outstanding athlete for running events. Presently there is only one award.
88-89
Accepted: Once a change is voted in it will be in
effect for a period of three years.
Accepted: The opening height for the indoor HJ will be
lowered to 4'2", and the outdoor HJ will be lowered to 4'4".
Rejected: Change the scoring to 10-8-6-4-2-1.
Accepted: Advancing in the 55m dash and 100m dash will
be by place.
Rejected: Advancing in the 55m hurdles and 100m hurdles
will be by place.
Accepted: Each coach will submit a team roster will
their entry.
Accepted: Any proposal that goes into effect after a
vote, that proposal is to go into effect is the season following the subsequent
season (to go into effect 1-1- 89)
Accepted: Change in constitution. Add to Article VI Meetings:
6) Proposals can only be made at this meeting.

Accepted: In the XC Championship the Varsity will run
before the JV
Accepted: The JV and Sophomore races awards will be 3
sets of medals and plaques.
Accepted: For varsity relays the medals will be 5 deep,
during indoor and outdoor.
Accepted: The number of events an athlete can compete
in during the championship will be
limited to two running and one field or two field events and one running.
Accepted: The walk shall be eliminated from the outdoor
championship.
Rejected: If previous proposal is accepted, then
instead of eliminated the walk put it as
the last event.

Intersectional Championships as a non-scoring but state advancing event. Awards to be the same as other varsity

Intersectinal Championships as a non-scoring but state advancing event. Awards to be the same as other varsity
individual events. This event is not to
be added to the Freshmen (sophomore pending vote) Championships.
Accepted: The league should host an Outdoor Sophomore
Intersectional Championship. General Details: Individual events of varsity
meet, 1600m relay. Same event rule as
varsity. Five individual medals, three
in relays and 3 small CHSAA team plaques.
