Clayton has stellar meet at Rockland champs

By Christopher Hunt

The day had mercifully come to a close and Jen Clayton, with her parents and sister Janelle went out to dinner to relax and celebrate a tremendous effort and another Rockland County title for Suffern.

Finally, she could sit still moment. That was until the cramps seized her legs and nearly put her dinner on the floor.

“I think even the cook thought I was being murdered or something,” Clayton said. “I was kicking the table. I was going crazy.”

Reese wins again

Muhammad runs meet record 400IH

By Christopher Hunt

WHITE PLAINS – Suffern’s Shelby Greany convinced Kristin Reese of Carmel to race in the 1,600. They both wanted a fast race. They would both ensure that it happened.

That’s why there wasn’t much strategy involved in this one. They ran attached at the shoulder, Reese on the inside. Every woman for herself.

Greany readied herself at the start of the bell lap. They both turned it up on the back straight. Then Greany pounced with 200 left and Reese responded.

“I took a shot with 200 but she wouldn’t let me pass,” Greany said. FULL STORY HERE

Faulkner flies in 400, wins 200

McGovern tops meet record

By Christopher Hunt

WHITE PLAINS – Curtis senior Troy Faulkner lay on the ground with his legs propped against the fence just outside the track. He talked about his back hurt, his hamstring felt sore and his ankle pained him. Everything hurt now, the same way it did before the race started.

Maybe the two rounds of the 100 meters he ran Friday coupled with the trials of the 200 Saturday morning started to creep into body and alert that in truth, running fast was a painful undertaking.

“But when the gun went off,” he said, “I felt no pain.” FULL STORY HERE

A Bloody Good Race

Livingston claims 800, Malivert tops 100

By Christopher Hunt

WHITE PLAINS – He didn’t look good. Not at all. Not with his head bobbing back and forth and the way his arms seemed to churn him forward like his legs were in disagreement.

But with 100 meters left, Great Neck South junior Terrance Livingston snapped together. His strides became powerful and decisive. His elbows tucked in and his arms became the perfect compliment.  So while it seemed like he fell out of contention, Livingston glided past William Godfrey of Merrimack and Peekskill’s Lawrence Campbell to win the 800 meters at the Loucks Games in 1:56.71.   FULL STORY HERE

Reese repeats in 800

Lipari outkicks field in 3,200

By Christopher Hunt

WHITE PLAINS – Kristin Reese could have been going over race strategy. She could have been finding her zone, going through mental checkpoints. But instead the Carmel senior could only think about the most human thing.

“I’m cold,” she said before the race.

A constant rain and a steady wind caused the shivers. But none of that mattered when Reese took the track.

Meet record falls on Day 1 of Loucks

Suffern girls win East Coast DMR

By Christopher Hunt

WHITE PLAINS -- Tyler Stutzman didn’t want to waste any time. No point in that anyway.

So when the junior from Virginia’s Western Albemarle took the stick for the anchor leg of the boys East Coast distance medley relay he didn’t hesitate before he reeled in the anchors from Shenendehowa and Colonie.

“If you past them fast enough they start to think, ‘maybe I can’t stay with this guy,’” Stutzman said

Some call it taking their hearts. Either way, Stutzman was right. No one challenged him and Western Albermarle, the Nike indoor Nationals DMR champs, won the East Coast distance medley relay on the first day of the Loucks Games. FULL STORY HERE
