CLASS A TEAM OUTLOOK:

New Rochelle is of course the heavy favorite but NewRo did lose a lot to graduation.  Coach Capellan always finds and makes new athletes and there’s no doubt he will again.  It will probably be a young team this year.

Suffern returns a lot of talent and has depth in the distance events.  They had a great team last year and they will again.  They should be able to score a lot of points at Sectionals.  How close they can get to New Rochelle remains to be scene.

Throw in Mt. Vernon to the mix and you have a very strong Class A field.  Mt. Vernon, any given year, has the talent and depth to make a run at New Rochelle.

CLASS B TEAM OUTLOOK:

Pearl River and their 19 straight Sectional titles return as the heavy favorites.  They have their patented distance strength again this year, as well as top sprinters and middle distance as well.  They always have solid field event, but they lost a lot to graduation and Reilly is playing basketball.  They always seem to come up with new athletes and youngsters who step up and this year promises to be no different.

Somers has been 2nd at Sectionals the last three years while never threatening to overtake Pearl River.  This appears to be Somers best squad with some elite athletes and depth in the field and relays.  How close this team can come to Pearl River remains to be seen, but they should at least be closer than they have been in the past.

Nanuet has been getting better the last few years and they garnered 2nd at Sectionals last spring.  They should be strong again and might be battling Somers for that 2nd place plaque.

CLASS C TEAM OUTLOOK:

It’s always about Bronxville and it will be again.  They just have way too much talent and depth for any locals to handle right now.  Bronxville is probably one of the best small school track teams in the country and they will show why again this year.

Alberts Magnus is down in Class C this year and they could be the next best team with Irvington and Woodlands.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: New Rochelle’s Lynne Lane should be the best with Scarsdale’s Retelny chasing hard.  Mt. Vernon’s Martin could be the next best.  After that, it’s wide open.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: There is no clear favorite this year, but Rye’s Brody, Somers’ Nash, TZ’s Sulivan if she’s back, and Pear River’s Moore all seem capable of running under 7.5.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Westlake’s Miata if she’s back and Bronxville’s Smith.  Smith is the best returner and should dominate Class C again.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: The Richemonds and Lane from New Rochelle promise to be the best with Taneisha Martin from Mt. Vernon right there as well.  Newcomers should make an impact.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Rye’s Brody seems to be the best coming back with Pearl River;s Kaitlin Quail and Nanuet’s Chrishelle Bibbons the net best.  Newcomers surely will make an impact.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville should dominate again with Bergold, Smith, and Jaglom.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Life after Nana Hanson-Hall and the Andrews sisters should mean that the Richemond sisters should dominate the 600m this year.  Offebia has great speed and should be one of the best around as well.  There will be some newcomers who step up this year.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Eastchester’s Reilly should be great with the added XC strength this year (she trained with Bronxville for XC).  Pearl River’s Lee and Somers Howard are returners from scoring at Sectionals.  Edgemont’s Rosow is a solid 600m girl.  PR usually finds some new girls for this event.  Somers Sarah Keating might contribute as well.

CLASS C OUTLOOK:  Bronxville’s Liz Bergold might be the best 800m runner section 1 has ever seen before this year is over.  She has split 2:10 outdoors and she should be able to make a run at the Section 1 record.  Dana Mitchell has run 1:43 in the event  and look for runners like Jaglom and others to step up and run the 600m this year.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: McKenna can’t run all the distance events, but it is possible her teammates will pick up the slack in the 3000m and Kara could concentrate on the 1000m and 1500m.  She has the range and strength to do it.  Offebia Hanson Hall has great speed and could excel at this distance.  Ciccone from Suffern, who I am told is an elite swimmer in the fall, should only be faster this year.

CLASS B OUTLOOK:  Planamento had a great XC season and should be able to run in the 3:05 range this winter.  She appears to be the best but should get pushed by at least one Pearl River girl.  Somers Swaitocha, with a 2:23 800m PR, should be able to make an impact as well.  Throw in the TZ girls and it’s a strong field.  Maybe Eastchester Reilly makes a move up after a successful XC season.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Millson put together a great race at state quals last year and has the best 800m speed of the field.  If she can find consistency, she will be the best of the lot.  Bronxville will show it’s strength once again with Mitchelll and Kearney and others for sure.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: McKenna and Kemink plus the other Suffern girls.  North Rockland’s Neglieri should be a force as well and the White Plains girl if she runs.  Hanson-Hall is running well right now as well.  Carmel’s Kristen Reese is another top runner who has shown signs of speed as well.  Katie Fox of South has good track speed as well.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Planamento is the best returner, but the Pearl River girls and the Tappan Zee girls should push the pace as well as Somers Howard.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville’s Hudson, Millson, and Burton are the best coming back.  Hastings’s Burke and Croton’s Bird are the newcomers.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Kara McKenna looks the best going into the season.  Kemink has been there the last few years and should be again.  Suffern should show their depth in this event.  Neglieri  from North Rockland has made improvements as well.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: It should be about the top two girls each from Harrison, Pearl River, and Tappan Zee.  Pearl River usually dominates this event at Sectionals. Somers Mary Alice Howard could make impact here as well.  Edgemont’s Rachel Smith could make impact as well.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Who else but Bronxville?  Well Hasting’s Molly Burke looks good as does Croton’s Sophie Bird.  Pawling’s

CLASS A OUTLOOK:  Hepburn is the best coming back, that’s for sure.  If Lane runs the hurdles, she will be great, but she will prob. do the 55m dash.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Vasquez is the best no doubt, but Somers sophomore Rachel Cassata should be able to run under 9 on a regular basis.  Swiatocha gives Somers a nice 1-2.  After that, Rye and PR usually have solid hurdlers and prob. will again.  Nyack’s Schupak is good if she’s back.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville’s Jaglom is the best of the bunch.  Not much right now after that.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Simoelli and Garland are the best returners and New Ro will have a good walker as well.

CLASS B OUTLOOK:  Rye’s Cady has gone 8:04 indoors and 7:52 outdoor’s.  PR’s Reilly is not running this winter.  Somers Julia Sterman went 8:03 last spring and should be one of the best as well.

CLAS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville – their top girls will be the best in the section, no doubt.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Ursuline’s Lewis is the best if she’s back, but you can count on New Ro having a good vaulter.  Besides that, the field is wide open.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Class B appears to be the most crowded.  With Powers from Pearl River and Joyce from Nanuet being the best returners and the Rye girls right there as well.  Throw in Somers soph Keating (7’06”) and Somers soph Cassata (7’06”) and it get’s cloudier.  You can bet PR will have another vaulter as well.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Irvington has had the best vaulters the last few years and that promises to be true again.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Ford from WP should be the best again, but Ayana Wyse has jumper over 17 feet as well and if she returns to her form from 2 year ago could surprise some.

Lynne Lane promises to make the most improvements and is capable of going over 18 feet,

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Vasquez is the cream of the crop again while Corbetta is also very strong,  Somers sophomore Andrea Nash has the ability to go over 16 feet as well.  Once again, anything over 15 feet should score at sectionals.  Rye’s Brody might surprise some in this event.

CLASS C OUTLOOK:  Once again, whatever Bronxville has should be the best.  While Jaglom is a better triple jumper, she is solid in the LJ.  My guess is that Bronxville will have another newcomer.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Fields in the best returner and Polmson from New Ro showed great promise last year.  There are always newcomers in Class A, and you can bet there will be this year as well.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Vasquez is the best in B and Bibbons is solid.  Somers Sarah Keating went 33’ last spring and is out for winter and she will be solid.  Hen Hud’s Anika Edwards is dangerous when healthy, as is Somers Rachel Cassata( 32’) and teammate Laura Tuson (31’10”).  TZ’s Sullivan can jump as well.  Pearl River usually finds a jumper as well.

CLASS C OUTLOOK:  Jaglom has it in her to push 35 feet.  After that, Class C is wide open.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Swiatocha is the best returning jumper, and while she did not jump well last winter, she has cleared 5’02” and jumped better last spring.  Somers 8th grader Avery Faeth cleared 4’11” last spring in 7th grade and should be one of the best around.  Beacon’s Riccardi, Magnus’s Yeoncades, and Somers Tuson are all athletes who have cleared 4’08” or better.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Larkin was the best jumper  in the Section last year, but the Class C field seems wide open right now.

CLASS A OUTLOOK:  Castro from South and Johnson from New Rochelle should be the best of the lot.  Arlington always has strong throwers and should again.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: While Beacon’s Riccardi was the best last winter, Somers ShontIa Lowe went to states last spring in Class B with a PR over 33’.  Pearl River has some good young throwers who should contend as well, and if the Rye girl is back, she’s solid as well.  Newcomers should make impact.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville’s Smith is head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the Class, and unless someone new is out, she will be again.  A lot of open spots in Class C SP.

                                          1:56.33            SOMERS                                   1/17                YALE INVIT

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Suffern set the Section 1 record last year and while they lose Piccolo and Cantave, with the Richemonds, they will be quick again.  New Rochelle has the best “Frosh” team last year and Mt. Vernon brings back at least 2 of their legs from last year.  Should be another tight battle.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Pearl River had the best time from last year and they will probably be faster this year.  Nyack is always dangerous and Somers has their entire team back from last year.  It will probably take 1:52 or better to be tops in Class B this year.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville will be one of the only teams under 2:00 again, and it’s just hard to believe that more teams can’t go that fast.

CLASS A OUTLOOK:  Seems like these three schools bang heads every year in these events,  Any given year any of them could win. Your guess is a good as mine, but Suffern migh have the edge rright now.

CLASS B OUTLOOKS: Somers and Pearl River look to be the best again with Nanuet chasing hard.  Pearl River brings back a lot and Somers brings back their entire relay.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville loses the Mullens and Butler, but with Bergold back, as well as a slew of others, you can count on them running around 4:10 again at least.

CLASS A OUTLOOK: Suffern looks dangerous after winning the Sectional XC title and how fast they ran last spring.  New Rochelle lost 2 of their legs and might struggle to stay with Suffern.  North Rockland and John Jay-EF could emerge as solid teams as well.

CLASS B OUTLOOK: Pearl River is the cream of the crop and will be again, though losses of Gaines and Demchko might be felt.  Somers brings back Howard (after skipping XC), Swiatocha, and a slew of promising newcomers and they should be able to push 10:00 this year.  Harrison lost Abrams and Yamato, but with Hinchey and Planamento, will be dangerous again.  Tappan Zee should emerge as one of the best teams as well after a great XC season.

CLASS C OUTLOOK: Bronxville.  They will find a way to run 9:20 again, I would bet on that. Pawling could put together another strong team, but not much after that.
