What Makes a Man Run?

People can't understand why a man runs.  They don't see any sport in it.   Argue it lacks the sight and thrill of body contact.

Yet, the conflict is there, more raw and challenging than any man versus man competition.

For in running it is man against himself, the cruelest of opponents.
The other runners are not the real enemies.  His adversary lies within him, in his ability, with brain and heart to master himself and his emotions.

- Glenn Cunningham

Results/News  - Week #10 (5/29-6/4)

What a week for NY HS Track

Suffern girls dominate

Cool weather and a lot of rain spoiled a lot of athletic matches across NY State but the NY State distance runners had it pretty good.  Along with amazing 4x800's at the Warwick fast Times meet as well as the Section 2 State Qualifier, HS teams at Icahn Stadium and Iona Prep performed exceptionally well.

Suffern girls broke the National record in 4xmile relay with 19:56.75 run at Boys Eastern states four days after running 8:51.0 the 4x800m at Warwick Valley HS, missing the National record by less than a second.  Suffern won the indoor National title in the DMR (missing the National record by a few tenths) and 4x800m as well as the Penn Relays title and have cemented themselves as one of the best relay teams in US history.

6/04 - Boys Easterns

8:51.0!

Christy Goldmann  -- 2:15.2

Shelby Greany -- 2:12.8

Caroline Heidt -- 2:12.2

Kara McKenna -- 2:10.8

19:56.75!

Christy Goldmann  -- 5:08.7

Shelby Greany -- 5:01.8

Caroline Heidt -- 4:52.3

Kara McKenna -- 4:53.9

St. Anthony's Jr. Walter Henning set a new National Jr. Class record of 247'06" in the 12# hammer throw.  It is also a NYS record and a Eastern States meet record as well as the 2nd best toss ever in US history.   6/04 - Boys Easterns

Did you see the results from the Section II boys 4x800m state qualifier race?  How about 7:54 for 8th place! WOW.  results

Some track news....

from Tullyrunners.com

Caitlin Lane and Chelsea Borbolla are back in the fold at Greenwich. Borbolla had run independently during indoor season, but returned when sisters Caitlin and Brittany Lane transferred from Saratoga Springs two weeks ago. With the Fungs and Lanes, the Witches appear unbeatable in the distance events, and Borbolla is one of the area's top 400/800 runners.  This could have an affect on the NTN next season.
