PICTURE ATHLETE SCHOOL GRADE SECTIONALS '03 BEST WCC '03

KARA McKENNA SUFFERN 11 20:02 19:46
McKenna has been one of the best runners in NYS the last few years, placing 14th at the NYS Champs last fall.  She is the Rockland County record holder in the steeple chase (6:54.0) and placed 6th at Nationals in the event.  She is clearly the top returner in the section.

KRISTEN REESE CARMEL 9 20:26 20:26
A 4:41 1500m at the NYS Champs was a stellar cap to a fine season.  Reese seems to race a lot less than other elite runners, but she also seems to run great when she needs to.  Still only a freshman, Kristen promises to be one of the top runners again.

AMANDA HUDSON BRONXVILLE 11 20:37 20:36
Hudson had a very nice debut season in XC last year, but she really made a jump on the track, running 2:16, 4:46, 5:06, and 10:18.  Her kick is ruthless, as she routinely finishes her 3K in 32 seconds for the last 200m.  She could really make a jump under 20:00 this year.

MARY ALICE HOWARD SOMERS 11 DNR DNR
Howard missed last XC season with a knee injury, but came back and roared on the track, running 2:15, 4:49, 5:07, and 10:28.  She appears to be ready for a breakout season after going to XC States in 2002.

ALANA LEVY GREELEY 10 20:43 20:43
Alana had a great debut XC season last year, placing 2nd at Sectionals and qualifying for her first NYS Champs.  She set the County record in the steeple chase this spring (7:11) and also ran 4:54 in the 1500m.  She has the ability to run under 20:00.

SHELBY GREANEY SUFFERN 8 21:08 20:29
While Shelby didn’t have a great race at Sectionals last year, she was the #2 girl all season as a 7th grader.  Shelby ran 7:12 for the steeple and 10:36 for the 3K this spring.  She’s a tough girl with a strong kick the last 150m or so and is yet another possible sub 20:00 girl.

ERICA PLANAMENTO HARRISON 11 20:25 20:25
Planamento had a great season last year, making her 2nd straight trip to the NYS Champs.  She was the Section 1 Class B champion as well.  This winter, she ran 10:37 in the 3K as has run 4:51 in the 1500m as well.  She struggled a bit with a knee injury at the end of spring, but surely should be another girls in the low 20:00 this fall

TOP SEVEN BOYS COMING BACK
PICTURE ATHLETE SCHOOL GRADE SECTIONALS '03 BEST WCC '03
  JOHN MARTINEZ NO. ROCKLAND 12 16:59 16:59
Martinez has been one of the best XC runners in the State over the last few years.  He was 3rd at Sectionals last year, 9th at States, and 12th at Feds.  He was 5th at Nationals in the steeple chase this year as well.  NR will have one of the best 1-2 punches in the state.

CARLOS JAMIESON NO. ROCKLAND 12 17:20 17:01
His times at WCC don't tell the story for this super star who has been one of NY's best for a couple of years.  He was 8th at States and 11th at Feds in XC last year and ran 4:17 this past spring.  He also clocked 9:12 in he 2 mile at the Hispanic Games.  When he puts it together, he's as good as any runner in NY State.

  DAN WALLACE-PERIAC NYACK 12 17:26 17:24
Dan was 18th at states last year and has tremendous track speed, going 1:55.74 at Feds this spring to garner 6th place.  He's a big, strong runner with potential to be a lot better than he has shown in XC.  He should make another jump this fall.

NIKO VIGLIONE SOMERS 12 17:42 17:35
Viglione really burst onto the scene as a junior in XC last year, running to a 22nd place at the NYS Class B Champs as he was the only Westchester runner to make the Fed meet.  After a strong spring season (1:58, 4:29, 9:44, 9:50stple), he should be ready for his best season yet.

ALEX BEAN SOMERS 11 18:59 18:39
As a freshman he only ran winter track and then he came out late for XC his sophomore year.  This past spring Bean ran 1:57, 4:28, and 9:46 to show he’s ready for a breakout XC season.  His potential is untapped and he should be the top junior in the Section.  He gives Somers a nice 1-2 punch.

  TONY DEROBERTIS TAPPAN ZEE 12 17:27 17:21
Tony was one of the best runners in the Section last XC season as he helped lead his team to a NYS title in Class B.  While his track times this spring weren’t as fast as the previous year, you can bet Tony will be ready to try and lead his team back to the State meet, this time in Class A.

  ANDREW LEVY GREELEY 12 18:47 18:14
After a disappointing XC season where the junior struggled with illness, Levy bounced back with a solid winter and ran 4:25 to qualify for States.  He then exploded this spring, running 4:17 at Loucks as well as 9:44 at Counties.  If he’s healthy, he’ll be as dangerous as anyone in the Section.
